Words of Wisdom

Wowza – Blogging directly from MS Word 2007. This may allow me to post more than once a quarter.

Normal service resumed

Apologies for slight loss of coherence in old version of previous post.

Caused by switching between a mac and a PC on the same keyboard and screen. On a mac the keyboard shortcut "Apple+V" pastes (the same as "control+V" on a PC). however if you switch back and forth during the day the paradigm remains. Fact of the day: "Windows+V" starts the speech recognition command. In this instance it listened to a few bars of music and insterted the words "whose food."

So now you know.

I don't usually take sides with PC owners but Apple should stop insisting the earth is flat on this one and fit in with the rest of the world.

Stupid Network and Scarcity

The mails stopped and the phone stopped ringing for long enough during the days between Christmas and New Year to actually do some reading of things put on one side while doing other stuff.

Read this essay by David Isenberg which dates from ten years ago, and which is prescient in its approach to networks.

Interesting to note the strong parallels to be drawn between networks and content owners. BOth used to preside over resources whose scarcity could be controlled. When what you are selling becomes instantly accessible, available the value proposition shifts somewhere else.

So content owners must build additional value around their content. Network owners must build additonal value added services around their network.

Bloggers - food for thought

Surprised or rather more surprised than I should have been to see Padmasree Warrior's blog immediately vanish the second she was gone from Motorola.

Susbcribed to her excellent corporate blog "Bits at the edge" and occasionally posted some replies. However within a day of her being "deleted" (telecom TV words) then all references including blog and corporate biog were deleted with her.

As more and more luminaries are encouraged to blog, it's something corporates should be aware of. If you want your execs to be thought leaders, then be sure to take note that the leadership and the following goes with you.

Stick that on the balance sheet.....

Starter for 10

sobered up from a leaving do with some former O2 chums last week.
seems so many people are now walking away from the music industry, disillusioned but with no regrets about leaving.
only a matter of time before the brain drain starts to really bite.
